Galations 3:10

I came across this scripture this morning and it has always confused me.  Let's read.  "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them". (KJV)  It seems like if you are a doer of the Word you are cursed and if you don't you are cursed.  Huh???   Well, this is where we have to not just read the word but study it.  If you look up the word of in the Greek, it is EK and means out of, from, by and away from.  So let's place away from in place of the word of and let's see what we have. " For as many as are away from the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them".   That makes much more sense. Thayer's Lexicon gives this definition- it denotes as well exit or emission out of, as separtion from, something with which there has been close connection.  The Ten Tribes walked away from the Commandments, something they had once had a close connection to, like what they mean to the Jews.  It is their life as it should be ours.

  1. I would say to get the true meaning you would need to look at the entire book of Galatians 3. It talks about how the law is a curse that Christ has redeemed us from. He did this because we could never fully follow the law and if we do not follow it completely we are cursed. Now verse 10 makes so much more sense. If we are still under the law we are cursed because no one can fulfill the law. This is a great passage to show how we have been redeemed and freed from the law.

  2. Bill. Sorry for the delay on a response. No where in the Bible is the Law(Torah) ever called a curse. It would do you well to download e-sword or buy a Strong's Concordance and search it. Now the Law is called good and Holy in Romans 7:12 by Paul. "Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." Also other scriptures that should be studied: Deu_4:8, Deu_10:12; Neh_9:13; Psa_19:7-12, Psa_119:86, Psa_119:127, Psa_119:137; Psa_119:140, Psa_119:172; 1Ti_1:8
But nowwhere is it called a curse. Now there was curses if you didn't keep the Law. The Law required blood. It required you dying. People were stoned to death for certain sins. The curses He redeemed us from are those curses to bring us back in. To bring back in His betrothed bride. That is why He had to die. Now we can be remarried to Him when He returns. The Bible never says we are freed from the Law, but from the curse of the Law of sin and death. That is a big difference. The Law can be fulfilled because now it is written on our hearts not on stone. It would also be good for you to get an understanding of Judiasm. It is made up laws that have been added to Torah. Which He says not to do. They made His yoke heavier than what it is supposed to be. That is why the complaint of Peter and Yahushua. He came back to set them back on just Torah. Like I wrote before the Israelites walked away from an intimate relationship with Yahweh, when we walk away from His commandments, we walk away from Him. The best advice I can give you is you need to study Torah, not read but study. Spend some time fasting and truly seeking Him and His Truth, not something you have heard from pastors. If you truly love Him and hunger for His Truth, He will hear and set you back on the path that leads to Life.
